Hello lovelies....It seems that we live in a world that is bombarded with negative things, and therefore it seems that there are a lot of people around us who choose negativity, and who are just plain mean, inconsiderate, narrow-minded, etc. What are your strategies for dealing with these types of energies (esp when they're directed at you) and transforming them into something positive? I'd love to hear some thoughts... Thanks everyone!!! :-)))

    dissipate with humor.

    don't let it touch you.

I heard this recently - if someone calls you a car - you are not going to believe them - you won't let them pour gas in your mouth.
for me if someone tells me I am somehow some judgment they are trying to inflict on me - I hear them calling me a carrot... then in my mind I get all grade school bully like and grab them by the lapel and say - "Hey, who are you calling carrot?"

and then it just becomes funny. light. inconsequential.

i had a situation recently with a vendor (yes, he works for MY company) where he personally attacked me calling me unprofessional and amateurish. it cut me to the core, but at the same time i realized it was HIS issues that were causing him to say these things. i was defended by my boss, which was important professionally, but that didn't matter for my emotional state.

i really tried to put myself inside this guy's head (keeping in mind that i don't know him at all); i really tried to think what would make someone personally attack another person (not just me, because let's face it - he does this all the time, right?). how often he had been made to feel unimportant in his life, how often had he not been reinforced for good behavior. it made me really feel for him. he wasn't a jerk anymore, he was this injured person. i sent him loving energy and the angst lifted. when i see him now, i give him a warm smile and send him healing energy. he corrected me in a meeting recently and i thanked him for educating me on that particular point. it's all completely disarmed him. i don't know if he feels any better, but i sure do.

there are many criticisms to this - it's patronizing, etc. but i really feel that i have the right to do whatever necessary to deflect negativity and send positivity.

      blessings,
      erin

        wonderful!

we can all learn more and more in everything... even in our "area of expertise" there are new and different ways of approaching everything.
and while we hope our "helper/teachers" would always be gentle - sometimes they are not.

so - the challenge with the situation you describe is... that there may be a grain of information within the spewing bile... and how do you get to the information without getting all that vomit on yo hands?
but... it is that grain of information that is really, truly... a GIFT.
and so... even though this guy has all those issues - he still gave you a gift... a gift that he had to wrap in a nasty, hefty bag o' yuck.

So... I applaud you and congratulate you for the wisdom and compassion you are meeting this challenge with.

you are bringing the light to the situation and he has no choice but to see that light... and be changed to some extent.
